The Savage Gear 3D Magnum Shine Glide Review

Spread the love

I’ve thrown a few glide baits lately (nothing fancy), just lures that work. No $500 lures claiming to have a fish catching lineage more robust than all lures combined. Nope. Just baits that do the job – the action and how well it flips a 180 – these are the criteria I base my preference on. Like I said, nothing fancy.  I figured the Savage Gear 3D Magnum Shine Glide deserves recognition because it checks the boxes. For an affordable lure, I’m impressed by many of the features of this lure and the ability to draw savage reaction bites. It isn’t the worst looking lure either with a wide selection of mixed color schemes that match California fisheries well.

3D Shine Glide Hardware & Paint

The hardware on the shiner is durable with strong line ties and a solid split ring line tie on the front. It comes with ST66 X Strong Trebles and durable hangers. The first thing I realized was how sharp the hooks are, as they stick into everything they touch. I was even worried to place my hand near a bass I landed with the shine glide in its mouth. Hook wise, this bait could handle most freshwater game fish, I think.

But I’ve read other anglers like changing out the stocks for quality hooks like owner. Another thing I like is the padded, restricted v joint that mutes the sound of the two-body halves as the bait walks side to side. The 3d scanned details are impressive and stand out well in murky water as well as clear with realistic eyes. This is a craft Savage Gear has homed in on masterfully among their arsenals. One minor gripe (and it could be a factory defect) is the durability of the 3d eyes. One popped off after my second time out with this lure.

Magnum Shine Glide Action

For a big glide bait, the Magnum shine glide has a big speed window with a fantastic side to side, pause action.  It’s easy to engage the side-to-side action without rolling the bait and easy to maintain a consistent action all the way back to the boat. The Magnum is a slow sinking glide bait which I love. It’s perfect when fishing around shallow cover like boat docks and laydowns. It works well across the surface, too. I like starting my retrieve on the surface, creating a V wake with a straight retrieve then cranking the bait a few times to generate a full 180. The magnum accomplishes a good turn around action making in a perfect oversized, subsurface top water. At short range (down the length of a boat slip for example) the magnum is still easy to dart from side to side.

Final Thoughts

The Savage Gear 3d Magnum Shine Glide is affordable and downright deadly, especially in Spring. I’m surprised by the quality despite being at a $35 price point. Everything from the action to the hardware holds up. I’d recommend it to any angler looking to size- up their arsenal. It slow-sinks and glides side to side with ease all the way back to the boat, which makes it perfect for fishing slow along boat slips, tuly lines, any short-range casting.
