The Evolution Fishing Drift Series Tackle Backpack is an all-in-one product. I’ve been using it for a year now and I love it. It’s made for hauling most (if not all ) of your tackle from one spot to another, and houses all the essentials. If you’re a weekend guy and need a good pack for trekking, this pack is for you. Kayak and small boat guys would benefit from the multiple compartments and clever functions. I can fit almost everything I need for a weekend trip including soft plastic bags, extra reels, and line spools. I can even pack for multiple species. It’s one of the best tackle organizational systems I’ve used. Better yet, I can keep it in my boat and grab what I need like an additional boat compartment. It has a velcro slip in the front for pliers and pockets and slips everywhere for easy-to-grab essentials. I’ll dive more into these pockets and hatches next;

Multiple Compartments & Top Hatch

The top hatch is deep enough to store soft plastics, a line spool, and even a small tackle box. I mostly use it for soft plastics – I burn through those the most when the bite is hot. Having the pack close allows me to reach in and grab what I need without rifling through boat compartments. It’s a perfect storage for the most essential items. The top and sides are a durable tough-wear material that allows the pack to sit up straight, even when empty. This makes it perfect for when I fish from the casting deck and need to make a fast lure change.

It has four pockets along the sides with rubberized mesh slips. These can house soft plastic packets, small-weight boxes, and small water bottles. I use them to transport extra line spools (pictured below). The slips on the sides are perfect for hard bait packages and extra tools such as split ring pliers. These pockets are made from the same durable material. You can beat this bag up, drop it, slide it down a hill of dirt and gravel and it holds up (I’ve done all three).  It’s durable but soft. I can sling it on my shoulders and walk with it for miles and it feels great with a consolidated weight somewhere in the center.

Tackle Tray System & Rain Shield

The Evolution Fishing Drift Series comes with six plastic tackle trays held within the main body of the bag and secured behind rubberized mesh netting with a clip. The inside material is softer and allows you to pack other tackle boxes ( not just the stock trays) as it bends to compensate for larger boxes. I’ve squeezed my glide baits and Magdraft boxes among the green trays, which seem to fit. The trays are perfect for Crankbaits, jerkbaits, and ultralight lures.

The tackle tray compartment has a specialized roll-up rain canvas that you can deploy on wet days. This comes in handy for small boat and kayak guys if you’re taking water over the bow. However, I wouldn’t advise storing soft plastics here as each box is stored vertically. As a result, plastics become bent out of shape. But I have to say it’s a great storage system. You don’t have to work hard to shove boxes in as the sleek material and softness of the inner walls allow for easy adjustment.

Final Thoughts

The Evolution Fishing Drift Series Tackle Backpack is perfect for anyone short on storage. The pack doesn’t take up a lot of room and can be stored in the back or front of any V-Hull aluminum boat or kayak.  I can’t emphasize enough the benefit of having a pack that fits the amount of tackle the Drift Pack does. It’s convenient to grab any tool or soft plastic from the top hatch. I like attaching a good pare of clippers to the front near the pliers and position the bag directly behind me when fishing. The pack is also perfectly designed for weekend guys traveling on foot to their location. The padded shoulder straps and backing make it comfortable to hike for long distances. The weight is well distributed preventing early fatigue.
